Nancy and I spent just three nights at Gecko Creek, just as spring turned into summer, and we will never forget them. What's amazing is that we can both conjure the magic of that place even though we are months away and 10,000 miles distant (I spent much of the last two days shoveling snow).

If you ever want to hear the sound of the land, to experience the fullness of life within the silence, go to Gecko Creek and stay for as long as you can. You'll be delighted by the people and by Hoka. Just don't scratch his head for too long!

Thanks to everyone at Gecko Creek. Linton, you've assembled magic.

In the alternative route book, we found this amazing site where we have stayed for 3 nights. We did not plan anything, but we were so impressed by the beauty of the place, the total silence and quietness, the gentil encounter with Hoka, the wolf, the other guests, Linton and Ingrid who made us feel at home immediately, that we spontaneously stayed for 3 nights. And it will certainly not be the last time! The drumming session and the interesting talks by the fire were just some of the many highlights at geckocreek.
If you want to be one with nature and yourself, then Geckocreek is the place to be!
Thank you for sharing your dreams with us. See you next time. And hug Hoka from us.

I feel it is near impossible to explain the magic of Gecko Creek, so at the risk of sounding like a wannabe poet by using too many adjectives and dramatic speech, here are just some of the major highlights described in an honest, trying-not-to-sound-overly-dramatic way... ;)

In no particular order...
Higlight no1: The beauty of the landscape - it's not something I appreciated as I arrived, but somehow it reveals itself to you bit by bit, throughout the day as it unfolds, and as the 'blinkers' come off your eyes. Highlight no2: The stillness... how do you explain something you haven't heard before? The feeling of complete safety, enveloped in the loving arms of nature. Can stillness be loud? Beautifully loud. Highlight no3: The night sky with a million little lights, awestruck at the magnificence as you gaze up from the Boma or through the window of your cabin while safely tucked in your bed.

A precious place. A great place to hideaway, rejuvenate yourself, center yourself or just to be yourself. Can't wait for my next visit!

Thank you Linton for making your special place available to others. We feel grateful for having experienced it.

I have been lucky enough to escape the hustle and bustle of Cape Town to visit Gecko Creek twice already.

With a bit of driving I enjoyed several 'getaway' activities. Hiking trails, a flight over the Cederberg, wine tasting at Cederberg winery, bushman drawings, "Stadsaal" and rock sculptures were amongst them.

It's not just a place where you just get away, but also a place where you meet interesting people.
Around the camp fire, I met people from all different walks of life.
As the night grew darker and the night sounds louder, we decided to challenge the drums.
If you ever thought you can't play drums or don't have rhythm, think again!
All of us strangers, from all different walks of life, created a rhythym of synergy that danced around the fire and into the night.

When all was quiet,
looking up at the stars in the black sky is just another reminder of awe.
That, as well as the earth and rocky sculptures around me enriched me with positive energy and an appreciation of life.

To me, Gecko Creek is a place where I find peace, enthusiasm, freedom and even friends.

My visit to Gecko Creek Lodge is one that stands out among many trips around the Western Cape. From the moment you even arrive at the road that takes you up to the lodge you know you are somewhere special. The lodge has breathtaking scenery, charming cabins and a really warm and fun welcome from Linton and Charles.
I strongly recommend everyone to visit this magical place.

After reading the advertisement in the Alternative Route, we decided to stop and stay for a night while enroute to Namibia. We absolutely fell in love with the serenity and peacefulness of Gecko Creek and ended up staying a week to unwind and relax after hard travelling for 4 months. The remote mountain location, dreamy sunrises and sunsets, and incredible rock formations (with ancient San rock paintings), make this lodge one in a million! The crystal clean pool was a bonus at the end of a day's excursion, and enjoying sundowners and a braai with fellow guests at sunset was the icing on the cake! In all my travels (80+ countries on 6 continents), this has to be my favourite spot!
